Joseph and the Colorful Coat - The Brick Bible For Kids

We know kids love Lego, and The Brick Bible For Kids series by Brendan Powell Smith (fully illustrated with Lego scenes) is a fantastic way to introduce them to powerful Bible stories.

When I was sent Joseph and the Colorful Coat for review, I decided to read it to my students (few were familiar with the story) and let them speak for themselves...so here's what they had to say.

What they liked:

  • the detailed Lego pictures
  • that is was a real story (non-fiction)
  • that it wasn't normal drawings
  • that it has a happy ending (sorry for the spoiler)
  • how there's a (find-the-Lego-piece) activity at the end of the book for kids
  • how the Lego people are in different positions and have different expressions
  • how the brothers became nice

What they didn't like:

The book was a hit, as the only negative feedback any of them had to offer was related to the plot (and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a good idea for the author to attempt to rewrite the Bible) or moments that didn't make it into a Lego scene (e.g. "there should be a picture of him getting out of the well", or "there should be a picture of the brothers pushing him".)

Other titles in the series include Noah's Ark, Jonah and the Whale, and The Christmas Story. More details can be found at http://www.thebrickbible.com/.

Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of this book for review purposes. Opinions are, as always, my own.
